Review by Annie Riordan

A team of archaeologists and scientists, led by uber-rich industrialist Charles Bishop Weyland, journey to a remote island in the Antarctic Ocean in search of a long-buried, underground pyramid. Once inside, the team discovers evidence of ritual sacrifice. They also discover - too late - that the pyramid itself it an ever-changing labyrinth which houses two vicious forms of alien life: the parasitic aliens and the intergalactic hunters (Predators) who have bred the aliens for the sole purpose of hunting once every 100 years. Now, the humans with the bad sense of timing are caught in a battle between the centuries old foes. Can brainy beauty Alexa Woods convince the last remaining Predator to join forces with her? Or will they all die in the pyramid under the ice, leaving the Aliens and their queen to take over the world?

If you liked any of the Alien films, and if you liked any of the Predator films, you will most likely find something to enjoy in AVP. Sometimes, you just wanna watch ugly, steroid-pumped aliens beat the shit out of each other, you know? Yeah, the story is flimsy, there probably wasn’t as much Alien on Predator action as there coulda been, but hey - it was a hell of a lot better than Predator 2....and Alien 3... and Alien Resurrection. Speaking as a huge fan of both movies, but as a slightly bigger fan of the cool-as-all-hell dredlocked Predator, I gotta say I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. I just shut my brain off, loaded up on snacks and let it all unfold. I wasn’t expecting Lawrence Of Arabia, fer chrissakes! And you shouldn’t either.

If you’re looking for a perfectly harmless, goo and gore filled flick with lots of testosterone, things going KAPOW! and BOOM! and lots of dumbass shit-fer-brains humans getting slaughtered, then by all means, sit yourself down in front of the TV next time this comes on and enjoy! No thinking required, just straightforward alien ass kickings all over the place. It’s a great guilty pleasure flick and - as an added bonus - Gary Busey is nowhere to be found!
