Spaced is the cult British TV show that launched the careers
of Simon Pegg and his director-pal Edgar Wright. It ran for
only two seasons, but has left millions wanting more and
after you sit down and let these guys into your hearts, you
will too.
Spaced charts the exploits of two down on their luck twenty-somethings,
Tim (Pegg) and Daisy (Hynes) who want a lot more from life,
yet can't really be bothered working towards their goals. We
are also introduced to their best friends and other colorful
characters that make this show click. Tim's best friend Mike
(Frost) is an Andy McNab loving marine wannabe who longs to
get back into the army that has already discarded him once.
We also meet the other inhabitants of their building, the
tortured artist Brian (Heap) and the crazy landlady Marsha (Deakin),
who aside from ploughing through bottles of wine, can't keep
her hands off any male in her grasp.
Pegg and Wright throw so many pop-culture and movie-geek
references into this show that it will take years of
re-visits to actually find them all it's great fun
spotting all the subtle, and not so subtle, homages but the
real charm of the show lies in the characters. Each and
every character in the show deserve their own movie, and are
as equally loveable as Tim and Daisy.
Some of the highlights from the series includes Tim and Mike
going on a paint-balling day-out, Tim playing so much
Resident Evil that he believes zombies are over taking an
art-show he attends and Daisy and Tim going out to get
pissed up, while trying not to get their asses kicked by
numerous people. To be honest, there isn't a weak episode
all 14 episodes are a small slice of genius that you will
want to watch over an over. Those who haven't imported the
Region 2 disc, have no excuse now GET THIS SET! |
