Released in Australia in 2006, this Australian mockumentary
is finally seeing light in the U.S. thanks to the Xenon
Entertainment Group; a company best known for its cheapie
blaxploitation video releases (Shaolin Dolemite, Let’s Get
Bizee, Blackenstein, etc). A production of the Jacobson
clan, the film was co-written by and stars Shane Jacobson as
Kenny Smythe. He heads a work crew at Splash Down, one of
Melbourne’s premiere porti-pottie companies. He delivers and
maintains units delivered to everything from posh race days
to rowdier beer-swilling events.
The audience is privy to Kenny dealing with the privy (yes,
there toilet and defecation jokes in abundance) and with his
shitty family life. His ex-wife, father, and brother don’t
see what the bowl holds for Kenny. They’re as ashamed of his
plumber’s life as he is proud of it. His odd coworkers
understand him, slightly, but it isn’t until he attends a
Plumber and Cleaner show in Nashville, TN that Kenny’s
really in his element. |

Ultimately
hinging on Kenny—his outlook on life, his reaction to
outward forces, and his awkward family life—Jacobson’s knack
for improvisation keeps the movie going, allowing for it to
succeed as a compelling mockumentary film. |
