Review by Phillip Escott

An ex-convict, Gilles (Naschy) gets hired as a care taker for three beautiful sisters. While settling into his new found freedom and responsibility he starts having troubling nightmares; nightmares that show him strangling women! Not to soon after, slaughtered blonde women are turning up near by... missing their lovely blue eyes! Is Gilles just a misunderstood loner, loved by the ladies and loathed by the blokes? Or is he capable of the murderous act that are being carried out?

Blues Eyes of the Broken Doll is a Spanish attempt to cash-in on the popular 'Giallo' genre that was hugely popular at the time in Italy. All in all, it's a solid effort and and enjoyable 90 minutes that will please all genre fans. The biggest flaw is in making Naschy out to be the murderer from the get go; it's be comes so apparent that the film makers want you to think its Gilles that after a while you know it just can't be. But it doesn't stop the finale from being a little shocking when the final reveal is made.

The sleaze factor is here in all its glory and makes up for the lack of suspects and red herrings; this being a Naschy film ALL of the female cast must have sex with and get naked in his presence... which they do. It'll certainly get your interest peaked while waiting for the next body to turn up. The gore quotient is a little low here, but it appears to aiming to be a classier homage of classier Giallo movies, think Bird with the Crystal Plumage not Giallo a Venezia, which works fine and doesn't remove any enjoyment.

Previous Naschy efforts at the Giallo (Panic Beats) haven't left a favorable opinion on me. Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll has restored my faith in his potential and I'll happily sit through another Naschy homage. This is a title that will appeal mostly to either Naschy fans or hardcore Giallo-heads who are wanting to see how another country, outside of the mother land, deal with the staples of the genre and what unique qualities are brought to the table. Enjoyable from start to finish!
